What is Muay Thai Boxing?

Muay Thai boxing is the ancient art of combat still taught to special forces and armies of today, known as the science of eight limbs. Hands, feet, elbows and knees with stand up grappling are combined to form just about the worlds most devastating forms of combat.

Muay Thai is not KickBoxing and should not be confused with it. Kickboxing is good in its own rights but unfortunately some kickboxing instructors throw a knee or elbow into there syllabus and call it Thai boxing... [this is robbery]. Muay Thai is a much tougher art of fighting and also more effective, in and out the ring. In Muay Thai you can kick to the legs, you can grapple, you can elbow to the head and knee also. The rounds are more gruelling as they exchange without pads covering the shin bone. The mentality of a Thai Boxer is more severe, Blocking full contact kicks to the legs with the use of the shin bone. The shin bone plays a big part in Muay Thai acting as effective as a base ball bat being swung. Its not about scoring points. Muay Thai is basically for the battlefield as well as the ring. It is powerful and does not lie, everything works, everything is strong and everything is dangerous.

There is also a strong background to Muay Thai, It belongs to Thailand and is the national sport of Thailand. It is rich in culture and has deep rituals from the mongkron that the fighters wear around their heads to the Ram Muay ceremonial dance each fighter performs before battle to pay respect to their parents, instructor and training camp.

Although this all sounds barbaric and intimidating it must be learnt in a safe manner and safety is our number one interest. Many people think that they will get beaten up and will have to get hit.... they are very wrong.

If it is for fun and fitness and to learn for self defence, all contact is controlled. If your main reasons for learning is so that you can defend yourself then Muay Thai is the one that will prepare you for a
real assault situation. It has a world wide reputation to deliver devastation..... and it does. All martial arts are good but some of them are more of an art than an actual fighting system.

At the end of the day a martial art is only as good as the practitioner, but pound by pound Muay Thai is well up there. Cage fighters train Muay Thai for the stand up part of the battle and usually Brazilian jujitsu for the ground work, that says it all really.

All Martial Arts are good........ but some do not get the job done when needed, should you find yourself in extreme danger. If you are training for self defence reasons then it is important that it is an efficient art that you are learning. If you are going to learn a fighting system make sure it works in
reality if your reasons in the first place is for personal protection.

Muay Thai is a great way of life, Promoting many positive attributes to all that practise in it.

Anyone caught using Muay Thai in the street will be no longer welcomed at Thai Works Gym unless it was a morally correct and lawfully correct reason.
