Grading

At Thai Works gym we don't believe in Grading!

Q: Why? Some of you may ask!
A: If the Thai people don't do it in Thailand then we won't do it at Thai works gym! When the non commercial Muay Thai camps over there, start to do grading so will we! (Which won’t happen!)

I have to be honest I had written a grading syllabus and put it on this site for 5 minutes!! I was going against my beliefs! And quickly removed it! It's something I feel strongly about! I will not go into why I'm so against grading in Muay Thai here but  would be more than happy to explain to anyone that questions my reasons, if you would like to know more please don't hesitate to contact me! The arm band (prajied) worn around the arms are traditionally a gift from instructor to student. Not a colour coded ranking system like belts in karate!  The "prajied" are symbolic, thought to bring good luck and protection whilst in battle custom has it Muay Thai has deep traditions but a grading system (to me) seems to be a worthless waist of everyone’s time in Muay Thai! It is not a measuring tool nor accurate and Muay Thai is nothing like karate and most arts in the sense of how we train. The myth as it stands is in the old times in Japanese arts such as karate a student started with a White belt and through time as they improved the belt basically got older and more dirty gradually changing. I do want to follow the traditions and want us all to use the prajied! So when you join you will be given your prajied as a token of respect between instructor to student and the colours of them will never symbolize or rank a student at Thai works gym. If I had decided to do a grading system I would have earnt more money from it but I can't lie to myself on how I feel! This will leave you to spend money on your equipment needed instead. Muay Thai is a life long journey!! Don't rush it! Don't "MARK" it. It doesn't come in stages. It's a European thing grading Muay Thai! Some clubs do it, some don't! It's just my personal choice and I know that most of the best fighters in the world never graded so that says it all! It works for most fighting arts but not for me. Not for Muay Thai! It's on how you train every session, not on how you perform in a grading. Enjoy wearing whatever colour prajied you wish! Students at Thaiworks will know each others levels and abilities without grading. We do not operate like other arts and Muay Thai is trained in a unique way to other arts. Same as boxing, the only true belt you can achieve is a "TITTLE" belt! There are untold amounts of un-graded Thai boxers that have a far more superior Muay Thai, fighting ability, fitness level, knowledge and technique than 90% of red prajied holders that have graded or received black belts! Don't get me wrong I'm not slating grading for other styles and clubs that do grade! It's all good, just not for me or Thaiworks, I want my guys to be their best every time they train, and they will. There is no grading that would make me think any higher of them, like I said it's a life long journey so just get a White prajied for yourself and watch it change colour as you get older and better, by not washing it if you wish ;) You won't get better faster by Grading!

We will have other more meaningful goals to achieve such as:
Interclubs,
Fights shows,
Certificates of achievement,
Sponsored events,
Club challenges.
Instructor programmes.
Etc.

You will know your progress and level and so will everyone know your level to! You are a Muay Thai boxer! No frills attached! Not necessary! Just a good old fashioned Muay Thai boxer! I would have to instantly put a quarter of my students to a red prajied which is equal to a black belt.... Nah It won't happen! "They know who they are anyway"

Thai works gym. "The house of hard work… The home of results”!
It's as simple as that!

Kind regards khru Glenn
